Detective of the Day

Privacy Policy

LAST UPDATED 2 SEPTEMBER 2026

The short version

Your progress stays on your phone. We have no accounts, no servers holding your data, and we never see what you play or how you do.

The app shows advertising, and advertising companies collect data. They see device and usage information, and — only if you allow it — an advertising identifier used to personalise what you are shown. You can refuse, and you can remove advertising entirely by paying for it.

What stays on your device

Your progress — which case you last played, who you accused, whether you were right, your streak, and which cases you have read from the archive — is kept in your phone's own storage. It stays there. We cannot see it, and it is never uploaded.

Deleting the app deletes it. There is no copy elsewhere.

Advertising

If you are not a subscriber and have not purchased ad removal, the app shows advertising supplied by third-party advertising networks. To do that, those networks receive information from your device. Typically that includes:

We do not send these companies your name, your email address, or anything about how you play. We receive aggregate figures back — impressions, revenue — which cannot identify anyone.

Your choice about tracking

Before any advertising identifier is used, iOS asks whether you allow this app to track you across other companies' apps and websites. That prompt is yours to answer, and either answer is fine:

You can change your mind at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking on your device.

The most direct way to stop all of it is to subscribe or buy ad removal — subscribers and ad-removal purchasers are shown no advertising at all, and no ad request is made from their device.

Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Apple processes the payment and tells the app what you are entitled to. We never see your card, your billing address, or your Apple ID. We do not operate accounts, so your entitlement lives with your Apple ID — which is why restoring purchases on a new device works without you giving us anything.

Network use beyond advertising

The app downloads the public list of cases from this website so new mysteries can be added without an app update. That request carries no information about you or your progress — it asks for a file, and nothing more.

As with any website, our host records ordinary technical information about such requests, including the IP address that made them. We do not use it to identify anyone and it is not linked to anything you do in the app.

What we do not do

Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. Because it carries third-party advertising, we ask that it not be used by children without a parent's involvement. We collect no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version appears on this page with a new date. If a future version of the app collects something it does not collect today, that will be stated here plainly and before the fact — as this update was made before advertising was introduced.
