Terms of Use
Subscriptions in short
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You are charged at the start of each period through your Apple ID.
To cancel, open Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your device and turn off renewal at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancelling in the app alone does not stop billing — it must be done in Settings.
If a free trial is offered, cancelling before it ends costs you nothing. Any unused part of a trial is forfeited if you subscribe during it.
The game
Detective of the Day gives one mystery a day, the same one for every player worldwide, released at midnight UTC. Reading the case and making your accusation is free and always will be.
Cases are checked before release to be solvable from the evidence given. If you believe one is not, please write to us with the case number — we would rather know.
What a subscription gives you
- No advertising anywhere in the app.
- Access to the archive of cases from previous days.
A subscription does not change the day's case. Subscribers and free players receive the same mystery, the same evidence and the same suspects — that is deliberate, so that shared results remain comparable.
Purchases
Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy, and are confirmed by Apple at the moment of purchase. Payment is taken by Apple, not by us.
Removing advertising is a one-time purchase and is permanent for your Apple ID. It can be restored on a new device at no further cost.
A further attempt at a case is consumed when used and is not refundable once used.
Restoring purchases is available from the subscription screen at any time and requires no payment.
Refunds
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under its own policy, not by us. Requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com. If something went wrong, write to us as well — we cannot issue the refund, but we can look into the cause.
Fair use
Please do not attempt to extract the case catalogue to republish it, spoil solutions publicly for cases still in play, or interfere with the app so as to obtain paid features without paying. The share card is deliberately spoiler-free so that results can be posted anywhere without ruining anyone's day.
Availability
The app plays offline once installed. New cases arrive over the network when one is available, but no connection is required to play the day's case. We aim to keep the case catalogue growing, though we cannot promise a particular number of new cases in a given period.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the revised version appears on this page with a new date. Changes affecting an active subscription will not apply to a period you have already paid for.
